30th Birthday

I was so depressed about turning thirty. And it really was bad. People said, "Oh, it's not that bad!" but it was. Now Friday night, March 13, I had a great time in Birmingham with my friends and Troy. I tried to do my hair like Beyonce but that didn't work. (BTW, you can buy a "bump" to go in your hair if you want that big poof!) We went out for dinner and drinks and Troy got to spend time with them and we all got to reminice. But remember, I was still 29.

On the 14th, Doomsday, it poured ALL day! First, we got stuck in traffic outside of Birmingham for over an hour (barely moving). Then we finally got home and I went out to Troy's. It was storming, so there was nothing to do but sit around and mope. I even had to do a little crying on the couch. Thank goodness I fell asleep around 9-10 because I was tired of that day.

But things looked up on Sunday. My sweet mom came up and brought Grandmama with her along with a bunch of presents and a cake. I really do like getting presents! They made me feel better (mom, that is). Troy also gave me some Coco Madomoiselle, which is tres fabulous, let me tell you!

Thirty is better now and I hope it will continue to improve!

Wow, a new blog!

I haven't posted anything on here in forever! I've been so busy this spring, I just don't want to make the time! On pretty days, I like to stay outside and soak up some sun with Edward (rereading Twilight series).

But the most of my time has been spent practicing for Shine!, our show that will be April 23, 24, & 25. I would love for everyone to make it! We are doing a bunch of numbers from The Wizard of Oz, Wicked & The Wiz; Chicago; and a few Motown numbers. I just do backup dancing but I've been practicing 3-4 times a week and not getting home until 8:30-9. Then I always have schoolwork to do!

So these are my excuses for not blogging! I'll try to keep it a little more current!

Fashionistas!

I need your help! We're going to a Mardi Gras ball tomorrow night and I'm bringing out the brown bm dress from Jill's wedding. It's so pretty I want to wear it again! I've already worn Casey's to another one a couple of years ago.

Anyway, I have this jewelry that Melissa had made in Fairhope and I love it and want to wear. How should I wear the necklace? Long or do it around twice? I have matching earrings and a bracelet and don't want to overload. Or no necklace? I appreciate your advice! Please disregard the pale face, red eyes, chapped lips and Cousin-It hair. I've been at school all day with youngens. And it's weird taking a picture of yourself.

Greenville's Ritz Theater Has a New Marquee!

The Ritz Theater in Greenville is a community landmark. I believe it opened in the 1930s and had some renovations a couple of decades ago. This week the city of Greenville lit up the lights of the new marquee above the Ritz. (By the way, the Ritz is where we hold our show that I have starred in for the past two years, okay, I didn't star in it, but I was in it).

Here are a few of my pictures and the article from The Montgomery Advertiser:

Ritz marquee shines again
Column by Alvin Benn
GREENVILLE -- "The play's the thing," accord ing to Shakespeare, but it was a lot more than that Monday night, and it wasn't on the Ritz Theatre stage in downtown Greenville.
What attracted most of the attention before "Bye Bye Birdie" began was a $200,000 marquee that glittered outside just above the sidewalk.
The neon work of art that surrounded the theater with bright red, blue and yellow colors brought back memories of days long ago when movies, plays and fashion shows entertained residents as far back as 1935.
As has happened so many times in central business districts across the country, the Ritz fell on hard times when television and home computers came along. People found themselves with other opportunities for entertainment and took full advantage of them.
It would have been easy to tear down the Ritz and turn it into a parking lot, but local leaders refused to see a landmark demolished. Instead, they went to work to save it.
The biggest boost came in 1982 when the Greenville City Council bought it and assumed responsibility for not only saving the theater, but restoring the interior and exterior as well.
The first steps were slow and not always successful. But the setbacks didn't deter the council and patrons of the arts from continuing to try and save the Ritz.
Urban renewal projects, for the most part, failed miserably around the country in the 1950s and 1960s. As a result, downtown buildings often were razed.
Some cities focused on awnings over sidewalks. Others spent a lot of money hammering aluminum siding to decaying buildings to hide the ugliness. Other ideas were tried, but few succeeded.
With a population of just over 7,000, Greenville can hardly compete for entertainment dollars with Montgomery because it's only about 45 minutes away up the interstate.
Saving the Ritz was one way to keep an important part of the past from crumbling, not to
mention keeping folks at home. As a result, money was raised from a variety of public and private sources to pay for restoration of the Ritz.
The art deco interior of the theater was gutted in 1990 and then returned to its original look. New carpet was installed to match the 1930s design.
The marquee proved to be a major challenge and an expensive one. Many wondered if the theater would ever glisten as it once did.
"The Ritz hadn't been totally lighted since around 1960," said Roberta Gamble, Greenville's shining light when it comes to the arts. "We tried a restoration in 1990, but it was pretty much a piecemeal project, and it didn't last."
"Miss Bobbie," as she's known in Greenville, recalled that the last movie she saw in the Ritz was "The Way We Were" in 1973. That was about the time the theater appeared to be inexorably moving toward its demise.
Thanks to the City Council's purchase and support from the Greenville Area Arts Council, it didn't happen, and the Ritz Marquee Restoration Project began moving forward again.
The Landmark Sign Co. of Montgomery did a masterful job on the marquee, restoring it to the way it looked when it opened in the middle of the Depression.
It all came to a wonderful conclusion Monday night as residents lined up to go inside to watch "Birdie." Many of them preferred to stand outside and watch the colorful lights for awhile.
Mayor Dexter McLendon, Police Chief Lonzo Ingram, Butler County District Judge MacDonald Russell Jr. and Greenville City Councilman Tommy Ryan were among hundreds of theatergoers who admired the light show.
Annie Killough, a student in Gamble's seventh-grade class years ago, greeted her at the entrance and said: "I'm glad you lived long enough to see it."
Gamble, who turned 80 last year, flashed a smile almost as bright as the neon sign above her head. She told Killough she also was happy to be on hand to see completion of a project so many decades in the making.
Nancy Idland, who directs Greenville's Main Street Program and helped lead the restoration project, was beaming as she greeted patrons on the inside.
"This says a lot about our community and the importance of people working together to make something good happen," she said.
Indeed, it does.

Happy Valentine's!!

My Valentine Sweetheart and Me!

Last night Troy and I went to the Chef's Table in Greenville for a seven-course dinner. Everything was so beautiful and the food was delicious! However, we were about the only ones there without gray hair (okay, I might have one...). We sat with Jill & Steve and had a good time. Jill caters and she had prepared everything ahead of time. It was gourmet cooking at its finest! We both had the beef filet, but the salmon looked exquisite also. This was the menu:

Appetizers - fig and gorgonzola pastry puffs, and rosemary pecans

Bread - Hot sweetheart muffins with raspberry butter

Soup - Warm tomato & gruyere bisque

Salad - Strawberry, walnut & blue cheese over gourmet greens with a balsamic vinaigrette

Palette cleanser - raspberry sorbet

Main course - Atlantic Salmon or Angus Fillet of Beef, stacked on roasted red pepper mashed potatoes, over a grid of whole green beans, topped with a bernaise sauce and garnished with sliced almonds. The wine will be paired with the entree that you select.

Dessert - Chocolate mocha stack cake with cherry vanilla cream topped with chocolate covered cherries and chocolate syrup

Coffee - Guatemalan roast

I had planned to take a picture of each course, but forgot when they got there because I was so anxious to dig in!

I'm too old to cheer

So I took off Monday to clear up my little ticket situation. I had to go to the Dale County Courthouse, so I spent Sunday night with Mom & Rodney in Newton and got up first thing Monday morning and took care of that.

Anyway, I got back to Greenville early and so I decided to stretch out really good before teaching cheer clinic this week. I only had to show the cheer and the chant, but you know I wanted to do my best and be sharp and all that. So I stretched really, really good. And I kept pushing myself because I can't stand to see those girls out do me even though they are 15 YEARS YOUNGER THAN ME!! (having issues with turning 30) I taught them W-I-N for their tryout cheer and put in a jump (which I did once) and made up another chant that had running in it (still in?? I don' tknow, but it looked cute). And I cheered WITH them, teaching and modeling from 3-8. Came home, soaked in theh bath for 30 minutes, in bed knocked out by 9.

I can barely walk today or lift my arms. I'm serious. I have taken like 8 Aleve/Tylenol since yesterday morning. I didn't get to school till 7:20 and I'm usually there at 7. I have to make myself move my legs one in front of another. I am finally facing reality that I am not as young as I used to be and can't hang anymore! And I'll be 30 in a month and don't even have a BABY yet among other things. It hurts to brush my HAIR!!! And now I have to leave for Varsity clinic. Great, two more hours of cheering. I just knew I still had it in me....HA

Puppy Update

Ann's puppies are so precious! They are growing so big. They have started venturing out out of the barn during the day to play a little, but they don't get too far from their mommy! There are eight of them. Pass along the word to anyone you know! We're giving them away to an AWESOME home who will spoil them rotten just like CoCo.

One little pup has some sort of skin infection around his little eye. I felt so sorry for him. So I took him inside and bathed him in flea shampoo (don't you know he loved it--he was actually very good) and then cuddled him in the towel until he fell asleep. He slept for over an hour in that towel without moving! He is very vocal and makes cute noises all the time. There is a cute picture of Tristen with the largest pup and the smallest pup. They are SO sweet! I want to keep all of them....
Buck couldn't stand missing out on a photo and he ran over and plopped down right beside me. Talk about jealous....

Sweet babies...This is a photo of the biggest and the smallest. The little one is so cute! Well, they all are.

They all curled up in my lap and started sleeping. They can just fall asleep anywhere.

This one below (left) got the flea bath and smelled so good. Ann couldn't stop sniffing him when I returned him to the pack.
